How To Move into a New Industry

The toughest part when trying to get into a new industry is right at the start when you have no contacts and little inside knowledge of how things work. In some cases, you don’t even know where to find the right jobs advertised or what are the key skills that will help you land a [...]

Happy New Year! 💫 My intentions are a little d Happy New Year! 💫

My intentions are a little different this year. There's less work and more fun, a touch of dreams but also a new focus on the present moment.

A New Year carries with it a lot of hope, excitment and new energy. I plan to start each week like a New Year to make sure the energy keeps renewing.

I'm planning rest alongside my goals for the first time in my life. The goals will still be there after a good nap or a Netflix & chill day.

I want to continue connecting with people but I will have clear boundaries. No immediate availability or responses, no putting everyone else above me, no going out of my way to help where there is no willingness to do the same for others.

It feels good to know this year will be different. If not in the daily reality, with many of us still stuck at home, at least in mindset.

And that's all the matters.

Your mindset can make all the difference.

It's like the feeling of picking up a book that you weren't able to finish and suddendly getting completely engrossed in its story, unable to put it down, wondering what took you so long.

Your mindset can transform your life without your life having to change one bit. And it's the most powerful thing.

I want to celebrate this highlight because 2020 has been a lot!!

In March 2020, 5 months into my events job, I honestly thought I wasn't going to stand a chance against the global pandemic that stopped all in person events. But, you know me, I never go down without a fight.

A million digital platforms demos and several virtual events later, it's been such a mad journey but one that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

So with this I want to celebrate everything I've done. From training myself to deliver virtual events, to stepping up in my role to cover my manager for 3 months, to founding and co-chairing the International community at Penguin, and of course running my own digital platforms to share my career notes in my spare time.

Thank you to everyone who's been supporting me and cheering me on. It has truly meant so much!

This year has been tough for everyone, but I want to give a special shout out to anyone who like me is living far from home. It's really hard to keep everything going not knowing when you'll be able to see your family and friends again. I know it has been for me. But we did it!

For all these reasons and more, this small win is worth so much to me and I want to celebrate. Proud of me 💕
"We live in a culture that celebrates impossible p "We live in a culture that celebrates impossible perfection. [...] The falsehood that we must constantly be on a quest to perfect ourselves is pervasive. It encourages us to think of the end of the year as a time of reassessment."

I loved this little book, especially as I have been reflecting on this year

Failure is a part of life that doesn't get a lot of attention and when it does, it's glamourised and embellished to try to mask it as something else. I am guilty of this too.

What I realised is that my failures haven't been the things I've been worrying about the most. Not the projects that didn't go to plan or the job I didn't land. Those aren't failures to me.

But my inability to being present, to focus on the things that matter instead of distracting myself with work, that does feels like a failure.

Luckly, as Elizabeth Day says, failure doesn't define us.

This book is a little gem and was just what I needed.

Hope you enjoy it too 💕

Do you have a book that you think of fondly? A boo Do you have a book that you think of fondly? A book that made you day dream about its characters, transported you to a different place or simply one that left you hoping you could read it for the first time again?

I find myself looking for books like these in winter, when my weekends are mostly spent inside (I'm not a very outdoorsy person).

It's usually the books I least expect that stay with me. Me Before You was one of them. I remember going to an early screening of the movie with my colleagues and thinking that it wouldn't be as good. It was good. I cried my eyes out.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, I loved how it gently leads you to what is a rather sad ending, but you're still filled with so much love that you're not destroyed.

I want more books like this in my life!

Is there a book that you'd love to be able to read again for the first time? 💕
