How To Move into a New Industry

The toughest part when trying to get into a new industry is right at the start when you have no contacts and little inside knowledge of how things work. In [...]

“When you care for yourself first, the world wil “When you care for yourself first, the world will also find you worthy of care.”

I’ve realised I haven’t shared a book in a while. This has been my little salvation in the morning.

I too often fall trap of the mindless scrolling first thing in the morning and I’ve been making an active effort to avoid consuming any content apart from this book.

Perfectionism is very much something I’ve struggled with. There was a time when I would proudly call myself a perfectionist.

And yes, when asked in interviews that was my weakness. Which it was, except I didn’t realise that at the time.

I thought I was being clever using it as my weakness but now looking back I see how perfectionism truly held me back.

I’m slowly making my way to into a life that’s less about perfect results and more about purpose.

It’s a journey and I’m not there yet, but reminding myself of that every day helps.

It’s ok to be imperfect.

It’s where beauty often lays. 💕

Counting down the days I get to head back to the o Counting down the days I get to head back to the office, meet my colleagues, sit in rooms full of books and complain about the commute.

Give me selfies in the lift, extravagant book celebrations and coffee chats with authors and clients.

Give me after work drinks with friends and networking events.

I would have never chosen to work from home 100% in regular circumstances and, actually, I never did when I was based at home in my previous role.

I love being around people and I get my energy from face to face interactions (Zoom just doesn't do it for me).

So in case there's anyone out there who's also been struggling with isolation and not feeling inspired, know that you're not alone.

Although having to go to work every day wasn't ideal (especially if having to commute on busy trains), I really hope we're not glorifying working from your dinner table or bedroom desk, and not seeing people for months.

Because the truth is that we're not all having the same experience working from home.

And if even people like me, with a good set up at home and enough space to separate work/life, are struggling, I can only imagine anyone who doesn't have that.

Work should be something we can enjoy.

For me, that looks like having the chance to connect with others in a meaningful way and not across a screen.

Fingers crossed we can get to that soon!

P.S. Did I mention I miss travel? I also would like to travel my heart out. 💕
Let's break it down! 'Creative industry' is Let's break it down!

'Creative industry' is a term that can be applied to many fields, especially now as every company has creative departments.

But when I talk about creative industries I'm referring to the traditional ones (swipe to see the full list).

All of these fields have one big thing in common: they are *extremely competitive* and difficult to break into.

So whether you're trying to start your career in one of them or are looking to make a career switch, my upcoming masterclass is for YOU.

I will guide you through the key steps to make your journey successful, sharing the tools that have helped me and the insights from my own creative career.

Throw back to the happiness levels of my trip to N Throw back to the happiness levels of my trip to New York in 2019 ✨

I still remember the feeling of immense joy walking down the streets of the city, exploring and living through the incredible energy there.

Visiting New York was a big dream of mine.

I had just wrapped up my job at Oxford University Press and was about to start my current role at Penguin.

I had several pinch me moments that year and I’m so grateful for the opportunities that my career has offered me.

Sometimes I remember thinking ‘Will this be worth it?’ living in a box room on a close to nothing salary trying to find my way.

And it was.

It’s worth it because if you are committed to your dreams you CAN make them a reality.

You just have be ready to give it your best shot! 💕

P.S. if you’re looking to get into publishing, events or any another creative industry, check out my masterclass in the link in my bio ✨
